Concept sketches for small game projects

Solo and two-person game teams need mood art long before they can afford an illustrator. This repository stores the prompts we use to draft environment and prop concepts with Raphael AI, a free AI image generator in the browser (https://raphael.app). The images are reference, not final assets.

Environments

  • abandoned greenhouse on a cliff, broken glass panels, overgrown ferns, foggy morning, painterly concept art
  • underground mushroom market lit by lanterns, narrow stalls, warm and cold light mix, wide shot
  • desert train station at night, one flickering lamp, stars, lonely mood, matte painting style

Props

  • brass compass with a cracked lens on a leather map, close-up, game prop sheet, neutral background
  • wooden potion rack with five differently shaped bottles, stylised, front view, no text

How we use the drafts

  1. Generate six frames per location in Raphael AI.
  2. Pin them on a board and vote on palette and shapes — not details.
  3. Write a one-paragraph art direction from the winners.
  4. Hand that paragraph (not the AI image) to whoever makes final art.

This keeps generated images in the role they are good at: fast exploration.

Notes on licensing

Check the terms on raphael.app for your use. We treat every generated frame as internal reference unless the terms clearly allow more.
